After clearing my backlog of work, I needed to clear my nerves so we headed out for an evening trip hoping to hook into some nice channel catfish. We picked up some big shiners, and headed for the Outaouais River just West of Montreal. As we got there, we hit a big thunderstorm that cooled everything off. I brought my waders along as the place is quite shallow around the main channel, a attempted some bass fishing using a variety of artificial lures. All I caught was a big sunfish on a small Mepps spinner.
As dusk hit, we sent out some live shiners into the main channel where the catfish usually congregate. We soaked them unsuccessfully for about 1.5 hours, then called it a night. Again, the moon was covered by clouds, I’m assuming it had something to do with them not feeding.
