Montreal panfish fishing
Panfish are generally the easiest species to target and catch around Montreal. Huge populations of perch, sunfish, rock bass, and more recently gobies (more of a nuisance fish) can make for non stop action when fishing with younger children. As small hook tipped with a piece of live worms will usually to the trick.
Most panfish around Montreal are too small to keep, although finding a school of bigger perch or crappies can often lead to a tasty shore lunch or dinner.
During the ice fishing season, panfish make up a large percentage of species targeted. Using light tackle and a good flasher, once can easily target schooling and suspended perch, crappies or sunfish.
Most species of panfish are open year round arounf Montreal, with the exepction of perch, which open early in May and close on April 1st.
